FYS9761 – CT- and X-ray Diagnostic Techniques
Course description
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
Course content
The course gives an introduction to imaging modalities based on ionizing radiation, with a focus on medical diagnostics. This includes different forms of x-ray equipment, CT, gamma cameras/SPECT, and PET. An overview of the technological basis for the scanners and the fundamentals of image formation will be given. Selected examples of applications will also be presented. Methods for measurements and calculations of absorbed doses and image quality are included in the course.
Learning outcome
After completing the course, you should:
- understand basic principles for image formation and image reconstruction for imaging modalities using ionizing radiation.
- have knowledge of the technological fundamentals for the equipment.
- have knowledge of different applications.
- be able to calculate absorbed doses.
- have knowledge of different methods for measurements of doses and image quality.
- understand the basic principles for optimization with respect to radiation doses and image quality.
Admission to the course
PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through?Studentweb.
If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.
PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must?apply for a position as a visiting student?within a given deadline.
