I posted the exam from last year here on the webpage. Note that the sea surface height should increase across the stream in problem 1, not decrease.
Marta will have a group session on Friday, 10-12, in Glasshallen 2. You can deliver your problem sets then. If everyone delivers them, she can go over the problems---otherwise, she'll have to be a bit more vague...
Hi all---
I've got a meeting until 15:00, so let's meet then, in U37A (i.e. 15:00, not 15:15).
Joe
Hi all,
There will be a group session this coming friday at 10:00, in Glasshallen 2
at 亚博娱乐官网_亚博pt手机客户端登录sparken.
See you there!
Marta
Hi all---we didn't have a room reserved after the 20th, but now we do. Here's the schedule:
Mon 27/11: Mellomrommet, 14:15-16
Wed 29/11: U37A, 12:15-14
Mon 4/12: U37A, 14:15-16
Wed 6/12: U37A, 12:15-14
It's not clear whether we'll need all the days, but I'll keep you updated as we go.
Aren't you relieved to hear "last"?
Problem set 5 is due on December 6. For 3450, do the 7 problems at the end of chapter 5 which don't have "optional" written next to them. For 4450, pick 2 of the 4 optional problems and do those as well.
The deadline for handing in problem set 4 is postponed until this coming Monday, no later than the class. Give it to Joe at the lecture or come by my office.
Good luck!
- Marta
Marta will have a group session on Friday, 10-12, in Glasshallen 2.
There is an error in the exercise on the bottom Ekman layer. The stress is 45 degrees to the LEFT of the geostrophic flow, and so 90 degrees to the RIGHT of the Ekman transport. I've corrected this in the notes.
We will have a short group session today, from 10:15-11, in the "mellomrom" in Geo. Marta is sick, but I'll come by, to answer questions about the problem set.

The fourth problem set is with the problems at the end of Chapter 4. GEF3450 students should do all the problems which aren't labeled "optional". GEF4450 students should do the same problems, and then pick 2 of the 3 optional problems and do them as well.
This one is going to take more time than usual, so you can hand these in by November 17. Good luck!
Marta will have another group session, to answer questions about the third problem set, on Friday from 10:15-12. We'll plan on having it in the glass room. If too many show up, we can move to another room.
P?l Erik will lecture today in U37A at Geo from 12:15--14:00. He'll start Chapter 4.
Now we're done with Chapter 3. No class on Wednesday (4/10) and no class next Monday (9/10), because of the mid-term exams. So we'll meet on Wednesday (11/10) and begin Chapter 4.
The next problem set is the problems at the end of chapter 3. That will be due on October 16. As always, you can give them to Marta, P?l Erik or me. Marta is happy to do a group session on Friday. If you'd like one, send her an email to say you're coming. If we don't hear from anyone, we'll just cancel the session.
We're going to have a seminar at MetOs at noon, so I'm going to cancel the first hour of the lecture. So we'll meet from kl 13.15-14 on Wednesday. I'll finish section 3.7 then, on geostrophic adjustment. We're meeting in room 102, the new room next to Auditorium 1 in the Geo building.
The lecture room for GEF3450 has been changed to Mellomrommet (room 102) in the Geology building starting from 2 October.
The lecture 25 September takes place in aud. 2 in the Geology building. The time is unchanged.
The schedule has been updated.
Sincerely yours,
Study administration
Department of Geosciences
Marta will have a group session in Glasshallen 2 tomorrow at 10:15. She'll be away next week, so there won't be a session on 22/9.
Today we started chapter 3, and got up to section 3.2.3.
On Monday, I assigned a new problem set. Do the problems at the end of Chapter 2. You can hand them in 25/9.
Marta will come to Glasshallen 2 in the 亚博娱乐官网_亚博pt手机客户端登录spark on Friday at 10.15. If you have any questions about the first problem set or anything else in the notes, come by. If there aren't many questions, she'll just have a short session.
We covered sections 2.2-2.4 this week. We'll move on to sec. 2.5 on Monday.
Homework 1 is due on Monday. You can either give me a paper version, or you can send an electronic version to Marta (marta.trodahl@gmail.com).
On Wednesday we started Chapter 2 (sec. 2.1). I also did an alternate derivation for sec. 2.2. We'll continue with that on Monday.
We'll have the group sessions in Glasshallen 2, in the Oslo Science Park (亚博娱乐官网_亚博pt手机客户端登录sparken) from 10:15-12. We've reserved the room for the next three weeks, but will probably move it after that.
Today we finished Chapter 1---so that means the first problem set is here. Do the problems at the end of Chapter 1. You can hand them in two weeks (11/9).
