Self study, Tuesday 2 March, week 9. Soil formation, Basic characteristics and soil descriptions, Soil classification and index properties, Phase relationships. Soil compaction and fluid flow, permeability and seepage-Earth dam as examples, Sress-strain relationhips, shear strength, drained and undrained tests, pore pressure, total and effective stresses, copression index, slope stability, Mohr failure criterion, modes of failure and Factor of safety.

The first lecture will be Tuesday 2 February from 09:15-12:00 at Room: 219 (Geology Building). Prof. Kaare H?eg will not teach this course in this semester. I will be your course teacher. More information will be given in the first lecture. Attendance in the first lectures is obligatory. Students who fail to show up and who have not applied for permission, may be removed from the course.
