Course content
MBV4010 is an introductory course to the master program in Molecular Biosciences. The main focus of MBV4010 is recombinant DNA technology and its applications. The course consists of practical laboratory exercises, computer exercises and lectures.
Learning outcome
After completing the course we expect your competence to include the following:
- master various methods for gene cloning
- master various methods for mutagenizing DNA
- master bioinformatics tools for managing and analyzing DNA and protein sequences
- know methods for analysis of gene expression

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
Bachelor degress that includes basic knowledge of molecular biology.
Overlapping courses
10 credits overlap with BIOS4010 – Methods in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry I
Teaching
Lectures, seminares, laboratory work, PC work. All teaching is compulsory during 5 weeks at the start of the autumn semester.
Examination
Three hours final written exam one week after the end of the course.
The laboratory reports and the other written assignments must be approved in order for the students to be eligible for the final exam.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
It will also be counted as one of the three attempts to sit the exam for this course, if you sit the exam for one of the following courses: BIOS4010 – Methods in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry I
