Today's lecture will be via Zoom, see invite below.

At the lecture, I will present Oblig5, which in essence will be quite similar to last year's Oblig5.

The lecture will be recorded:

Forelesning vil blive opptaket.

Chatten vil IKKE blive publiseret....

Hi everyone!

Hope you get to enjoy some Easter these days.

I've translated last year's Oblig 5 to english for my international friends. You can find it under "Group Sessions - Online Resources" -> "Translations"

The obligs will continue as planned, albeit Oblig4 has an extended deadline.

The WRITTEN EXAM will be replaced by a take-home exam, see the change here: /studier/emner/matnat/ifi/IN3030/v20/eksamen/index.html

Basically, you will get 7 days to do a take-home exam that is expected to require at most 2 days of work.

The grading will be pass/fail.

Note: You will have to have passed all five obligs to be able to take the exam.

Have a nice weekend (despite Oblig4!), and a great Easter.

I briefly explained the concept of convex hull and coded a sequential solution to Oblig 5 live! You can find the recording in "Group Sessions - online resources" to the left.

The oblig will be published 15.04 so I suggest you take a look at last year's O5 - it should be more or less identical. I'll publish the live code and precode for O5 on my Github ASAP:

My Github

Also, I will likely be making some modifications to the precode in the style of the previous ones where there will be a standardized way to add and print points. Makes it easier for the correctors. Keep an eye out for changes to the precode, but it shouldn't be too substantial.

AND for my international friends (if there are any left in the course): last year's O5 is unfortunately written in norwegian, so please email me if you want me to translate.

The deadline for Oblig 4, IN3030/4330, has been extended to Sunday evening April 5th at 23:59:00.

A number of students have asked for deferments and after conferring with the Teaching Assistants and with the Uddanningsleder, we have decided to give ALL of you more time.

Hello!

Below is the invite to the online group session. Should be recurring so I think that's the only invitation you're gonna need for the semester. Between 12:15 and 14:15. We can expand the time if necessary but that's the default time for group sessions moving forward.

Not really a lot to talk about, honestly. I think we should wait until next week to talk about Oblig 5 so this week we'll probably just do oblig help or other miscellaneous discussions :)

EKSAMEN

I got a question yesterday about the following point in oblig 3:

"The execution time for the sieve must not exceed 30 seconds - if it does, you are doing something wrong.
Similarly, the time for factorization should not exceed 60 seconds."

The question was if the 30 and 60 second time limits are for the sequential or the parallell implementation. It's for the parallell one. Typically, the sequential solution to factorization provided takes a bit longer than 60 seconds, so don't worry about it :)

Lotta messages coming through these days.

As you may know by now, lectures (including group sessions </3) are cancelled this week. However, we are allowed to host a Q&A!

I've sent the password and invite to all of you by email. I'll be around in the Zoom meeting tomorrow (Thursday 19.03) between 12:15 and 16:15 to answer your burning questions. If you didn't get the email for some reason, please notify me and I'll try again! :)

Apparently, there has been a rumor circulating that MN is postponing the deadlines for obligs. This is entirely unconfirmed and so it is highly likely to be fake news.

Please just keep workiing on the oblig :)

One cannot predict what will happen, but for now the deadline is unchanged.

The Q&A Session is over.

You can access the audio and the full recording of the meeting including the chat here

Hope you are all healthy and able to continue your studies at home.

All lectures at UiO have been cancelled for this week.

That means that you can spend time doing the oblig.

I will start a Zoom meeting at 10:15am tomorrow, March 18th, 2020 where IN3030/4330 students can ask questions. I will continue for as long as there are questions, or high noon, whichever comes first - with the usual 11:00 - 11:15 break, if needed.

The University buildings have been closed to all, both students and teachers.

You are expected to continue your studies at home.

The University is preparing to do virtual lectures and virtual group sessions -- Kim and I are ready to do this already in the coming week using a Zoom client - get it from Zoom download center then login via uio.zoom.us using your UiO login (Feide), see instructions here.

Kim used Zoom for yesterday's group session - and it worked well. But the University wants to use the coming week to prepare for virtual teaching and so we have - so far - been told to wait with virtual teaching u...

I made a new subfolder where I'll be posting everything from the online group sessions for however long this lasts. You'll find recordings and other stuff in it, look to the left :)

The plan is to do live classrooms every week using Zoom like today, check your email if you have no idea what I'm talking about. I suggest 1 class between 12:15 and 14:15 every Thursday. If that doesn't work out for you please contact me and maybe we'll do it between 14:15 and 16:15 instead.

Love, Kim

Like Eric said, the group sessions will go on as usual tomorrow. I'll give an introduction to Oblig4 and the sequential implementation! If there's any time left we'll do some oblig help :)

And if a lot of you are unable to show up because of the virus I'll come up with some solution so that you'll be able to get the intro to Oblig4 as well!
