Course content

In this course you will get an introduction to robotics. You will learn about the mechanical structure of robots, the spatial description of the robots and transformations. The course also deals with kinematic and inverse kinematic equations for different robot systems, simple control techniques and control of robot systems, as well as the application areas of robot technology. You will conduct laboratory exercises to learn how to program simple robot controls.

Learning outcome

After taking IN4140 you'll:

  • have knowledge of different areas of application for robot systems and how they are structured.
  • have mastered the mathematics involved in kinematics, dynamics and control of simple robot systems.
  • be able to select a robot configuration according to application, and create an operating system for simple robot systems
  • have an understanding of the importance of robots in society
  • have knowledge of sensor control of robot systems based on power measurements and camera

Admission to the course

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for?in Studentweb.

If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about?admission requirements and procedures for international applicants.

The course is based on knowledge of mechanics corresponding to Physics-1 and -2 from Norwegian upper secondary school (videreg?ende skole), and you ought to have knowledge of at least onme high-level programming language as well as some experience with linear algebra (matrix calculation) and partial differential equations. Examples of courses it would be advantageous to take prior are MAT1110 – Calculus and Linear Algebra, IN1080 – Mechatronics, and IN1000 – Introduction to Object-oriented Programming.
