I have now posted some solutions to the exercises for "wed. 22.04" and "rest of the semester". Note that some of the solutions aren't complete, but sketches the main ideas.
Some typos I didn't notice until after the scan (there are probably more):
6.8.12 f) Should say \lambda, not z in the gradient.
10.1.10 c) In the last paranthesis there should be a "2" in the denominator (got cut off by the scan).
10.2.2 b) Should say that 1/4 is not equal to 1/2 in the last line.
10.4.6 b) The last computation is not the supremum norm of I_2, but it will still help in showing convergence.

- Lectures are now over and you will find a final syllabus here. Note in particular the three supporting notes on Taylor expansions/multiindices, little-o and big-O, and the l?-spaces.
- Exercises for the rest of the semester are listed here, and a list of relevant exam problems are listed here.
- A solution to the mandatory assignment will be posted in one week.
- Office hours will continue every Wednesday 10:15–12:00 until 10 June.

Dear all,
I'm afraid there is an issue which I did not see until now in mandatory assignment 2, problem 3. The issue is that it's not so obvious that D is a vector space – in particular, it's not clear how to compute u+v for u in D? and v in D?. This issue only shows up when trying to show that F is additive (that is, F(u+v)=F(u)+F(v)). I will therefore not require that you prove that F is additive in problem 3(c).
To clarify: The problem statements are fully correct, but a rigorous proof is more delicate than I originally thought. I'm very sorry for any confusion that this has caused.

The Where can I get help? page has now been updated. In short, the changes are:
- a Zoom discussion room for students only
- the "Discussions" function in Canvas has been enabled
- digital "Fellesorakel"
- office hours now on Wednesdays 10:15-12:00.
Use these aids actively when working on the mandatory assignment or on weekly exercises!

The Zoom link on the webpage was wrong until 13:00 today! Before that I was (alone) in another Zoom meeting and was wondering if no one needed my help. Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions, and I will try to help (we can do a Zoom meeting for instance). Next Monday evertyhing will (hopefully) be back in order.

Several messages at once:
- I have decided not to give "interactive lectures" on Wednesdays due to low turnout. Instead, I will hold an extended "office hour" on Wednesdays from 10:15–12:00. See Info on digital teaching for up-to-date information.
- The second mandatory assignment will be published tomorrow, Thursday 16 April, and the deadline is Thursday 30 April at 14:30.
- I have written a few pages about little-o and big-O notation and its usage for the Fréchet derivative; see the Syllabus.
- Videos and quizzes are now located at... drum roll... Videos and quizzes.

The lectures on Mondays 12:15-14:00 will from now on be more like a "gruppetime". This means that you can ask me anything in smaller Zoom rooms (breakout rooms). You just sign in here, and I will assign you an individual room where you can ask me anything. (Similar to a "gruppel?rer" walking around helping people in a class room.) If many people sign in, you may have to wait for a few minutes before you get help. I will try to organize a queue system. This might be posted here before each session.

Starting this week, I am switching from live Zoom lectures to shorter video recordings. Each video will be accompanied by a short quiz to test your understanding. Please go to digital teaching for more information. I will continue to give weekly exercises.
I have also updated the "Where to get help" section. In particular, the "Fellesorakel" will start this week in the usual time slots.

Dear all,
As you might have heard, there will be no traditional exams at the university this Spring. Instead, the exam will be held as a 7-day individual home exam with all aids allowed. The problems will be similar to a mandatory assignment. Collaboration will not be considered cheating, but you must have formulated and written the answer that is submitted, and it should reflect your understanding of the syllabus. The grade will be pass/fail, and the limit for passing will be 40% (like E at the regular exam). The exam is published in Inspera on 8 June at 09:00 and must be submitted as one PDF file in Inspera within the same time 7 days later. More information will follow.
The faculty is working on solutions for students who may not have access to a computer/network.

Obviously we won't be able to do the repetition lectures as usual either. On the upcoming Monday (16.03) I will probably just post some notes/solutions. From Monday 23.03 I might try to do something similar to what Ulrik did this Thursday (video on Zoom).

Dear all,
A video recording of today's "webinar" lecture is now available in the course schedule.
The university is now fully closed, but I will continue teaching in some digital form or another. All teaching next week has been cancelled, and we will continue with online lectures on Wednesday 25 March. Please check the course page regularly for details on how the lectures and "fellesundervisning" will take place.

I will attempt to give a lecture by video today from 13:15-14:00. Please follow this link this link. You will have to install the Zoom application if you have not done so already. The lecture will start at 13:15 sharp, so please follow the link and install the app well in advance.
The university has a paid subscription to Zoom, so you need to log in with your university credentials. Consult uio.zoom.us to set up your account.
I would appreciate if as many as possible can join in and give feedback about possible improvements afterwards, or suggestions for alternatives. You will (hopefully) be able to ask questions in writing or through your computer/Ipad/cell phone microphone.

On the advice of the Department administration, all teaching activities in this course have been cancelled, with effect from tomorrow, Thursday 12 March. I will publish my lecture notes for Sections 5.1–5.2 on the web pages tomorrow. More information on digital tools for the teaching in this course will soon follow. The organization of the exam has yet been decided, but at the moment the plan is to organize the exam as planned. Please consult the university's topic pages for more information.

The first mandatory assignment has now been corrected. Please carefully read the feedback to each exercise. We have been quite strict, so don't feel bad if your hand-in wasn't approved!
If your submission has been marked "Incomplete" then you will need to redo and resubmit the exercises specified in the comment to your submission. The deadline is Monday 16 March at 14:30.

The lecture on Thursday 5 March has been moved to Auditorium 2 in the chemistry building. The lecture will start at 12:30.
I will be away next Thursday. Therefore, the "fellesundervisning" on Monday 10 February and the lecture on Thursday 13 February will switch places.

This is what I think the repetition lectures will be like:
12:15-13:00: Repetition of the main results/definitions. I will probably also solve some exercises relevant to the material.
13:00-13:15: Break. Feel free to come and ask questions.
13:15-13:??: I will solve exercises on the blackboard. (Come with suggestions!)
13:??-14:00: Hopefully there is some time left. In this part you can ask me more specific questions.
When I know which exercises to do, I will try to write it in the schedule. I will try to make a poll or something, where you can vote on which exercises you want me to do.
Welcome to the first lecture on Wednesday 15 January! Please consult the schedule for information about each lecture.
This course will be taught in English if a sufficient number of students request it.
