Dear students.
here is the typo-corrected exam text and the outline of the solution.
God jul!
Clara and Timo
Dear students,
Here is the schedule for the PhD presentations:
Tuesday 22.11.22
Jie Bian
Jonas Thoen Faber
Tore Klungland
Oda Kristin Berg Langrekken
Anders Lauvland
Wednesday 23.11.22
David Samuel
Anders Thoresen Sandnes
Simon Elias Schrader
Magne Elias Roland Udn?s
Please prepare a 15 minutes presentation. Questions are welcome afterwards. It would be nice if you could present something that links your research to the course itself, but it is also fine to present an interesting paper, especially if you are at the beginning of your PhD.
Please let us know within Monday 15.11.2022 if you cannot make it to your designated time slot.
Good luck!
Timo and Clara
Dear PhD students,
As you already know, you are requested to hold a presentation on a theme related to the course in order to be admitted to the exam. Presentations will take place on Tuesday 22/11 and Wednesday 23/11, and should last 15 minutes each. It would be nice if you could present something that links your research to the course itself, but it is also fine to present an interesting paper, especially if you are at the beginning of your PhD.
We will soon let you have a schedule for the two presentation days. Master students are very welcome to follow the presentations, it is usually very interesting for everyone!
Clara
Dear students,
Some of you asked me if I could provide some formula sheets of linear algebra, since exercises involve operations with matrices from time to time. Here are a couple of links (from the internet) you might find useful:
Formula sheet 1
Formula sheet 2
Kind regards,
Clara
The text of the second mandatory assignment has been published, please see here the text of the assignment.
It must be submitted via Canvas by Thursday, November 3rd (2022), 14:30 (CET).
For those who want to use a program different from R to perform the analysis, they can get the data in R and save in a .csv file by using the following script (in R) and then start form the saved file:
---
library(mlbench)
data(PimaIndiansDiabetes)
data(PimaIndiansDiabetes2)
---
Depending on your preference about the use of comma or point in the number format, use
either:
---
write.csv(PimaIndiansDiabetes, file = 'PimaIndiansDiabetes.csv')
write.csv(PimaIndiansDiabetes2, file = 'PimaIndiansDiabetes2.csv')
---
or:
---
write.csv2(PimaIndiansDiabetes, file = 'PimaIndiansDiabetes.csv')
write.csv2(PimaIndiansDiabetes2, file = 'PimaIndiansDiabetes2.csv')
---
Dear students,
we are currently correcting your assignments. We are correcting the tasks separately, so it might occur that you have received feedback for one part but not for the other.
Any comments or annotations in your submissions are there to help you and do not need to be corrected. At latest one week after your submission deadline, you will receive feedback and know if you have passed.
Best,
Clara and Timo
Dear students,
the solutions to exercises 7.1, 3.16 and 3.19 will be slightly delayed. The solutions will be uploaded (hopefully) until the end of this Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience and delays.
Timo
The text of the first mandatory assignment has been published, please see here the text of the assignment.
It must be submitted via Canvas by Thursday, September 22nd (2022), 14:30 (CEST).
For those who could not attend the first lecture:
- Organization: Tuesday exercises with the TAs, Wednesday lectures with me.
- Communication/material: I will use the STK-IN4300 course website for every communication. The slides of the lectures will be available 1-2 days before (otherwise please refer to the 2021 course page). The exercises will be uploaded on Wednesday after the lecture.
- Exam: written exam on 05.12.2022. PhD students may have to give a presentation during the last week of lecture (or, if too many, there will be another task).
- Mandatory assignments: there will be two mandatory assignments. Their texts will be posted here, but the solutions need to be submitted via Canvas. The first assignment most probably will be out on the 1st of September, with deadline for submission on the 15th of September. ...
