STK4000 – Special curriculum and seminar
Course content
Master level students have the option of taking a special course with topics selected to be of particular relevance for their intended Master thesis. Material for the course is put together in cooperation with the thesis supervisor, and the course proceeds on a self-study basis under the supervision. The course ends by the student giving a seminar on a particular topic selected some two weeks earlier by the supervisor.
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Prerequisites
Recommended previous knowledge
STK1100 – Probability and Statistical Modelling, STK1110 – Statistical Methods and Data Analysis, STK2120 – Statistical Methods and Data Analysis 2 (discontinued), STK2130 – Modelling by Stochastic Processes
Teaching
The duration of the course is one semester. The study is based on individual work and supervised by one or more supervisors (internal/external).
Examination
Final exam consisting of the student giving a 45 minutes seminar on a particular topic selected some two weeks earlier by the supervisor.
Language of examination
Subjects taught in English will only offer the exam paper in English.
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.

Grades are awarded on a pass/fail scale. Read more about the grading system.
Explanations and appeals
Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
