ENT4510 – Social Entrepreneurship in Practice
Course content
This course gives you an extensive practical experience with social entrepreneurship, supported by theory to help you understand the given context you are working in and conceptual frames and tools by which to make sense of social entrepreneurial activity in general. The course takes place in Cape Town, South Africa.
Learning outcome
After you have completed ENT4510, you will:
- know the historical and socio-economic background for and importance of social entrepreneurship in the local, national and global context
- know how to analyze an organization or business environment
- be able to apply innovative thinking in order to improve an organisation’s or business’ performance and role in society
- be aware of your own professional and personal managerial strengths and weaknesses
- be familiar with communicating professionally in English including presenting findings in a compelling way
- have a deeper understanding of working in an international environment
Admission to the course
This course is only available for students enrolled in the Social entrepreneurship programme.
Formal prerequisite knowledge
Teaching
During a 10 week?stay abroad you will spend 4?days a week in a social mission-driven venture. In addition, you will attend a 3-4 hour lecture once a week and have at least biweekly sessions with follow up.
There are two?components of mandatory assignments:
- 80% attendance requirement
- Individual written assignments

Examination
You will be assessed based on the three following?parts:
- Final written assignment, individual or in pairs (count 35 %)
- Final?presentation, individual or in pairs (count 35 %)
- Final written individual reflection report (count 30%)
The?exam takes place in local destination.
Mandatory assignments must be approved prior to the exam. The mandatory assignments and the?final examinations must be passed in the same semester to pass the course.
The assessment is done for the group as a whole. Group members who do not fulfill their obligations can be assessed?individually from the group.
