Introduction of new employees (onboarding)

Well-planned introduction and systematic follow-up of new employees (onboarding) is one of the most important things a company can do to attract, develop and retain employees. The onboarding period extends over the employee's first year.

Purpose

The onboarding process must fulfil the new employee's need to:

  • familiarise themselves with basic organisational knowledge, formal guidelines, practical matters and routines
  • understand their own responsibilities, role, goals and tasks
  • get quickly into the organisational culture locally and understand the unit's role at the University of Oslo as a whole
  • receive training in key processes and systems
  • obtain the necessary competence development for the role
  • establish necessary connections and networks in the business

 

Responsibilities

As a manager, you are responsible for the onboarding process, but you are welcome to involve employees and other managers in certain tasks.
