NORINT0105M – Introduction to Norwegian 1

Course content

The course is an introductory course in the Norwegian language for international students at the University of Oslo (UiO). Students follow the online course, ‘Introduction to Norwegian’, for four weeks, followed by four gatherings on campus. In addition to an introduction to Norwegian, the students get acquainted with student life/daily life at UiO.

Learning outcome

After completing the course you will be able to:

  • express yourself understandably about topics covered in the course, both written and oral
  • understand oral Norwegian about familiar topics when the conversation partner speaks clearly and slowly
  • understand written Norwegian about familiar topics
  • master Norwegian morphology and syntax covered in the course
  • master basic Norwegian pronunciation covered in the course

Final marks will show the extent to which students have benefited from the course.

Teaching

Part 1 (self-study online): The online course "Introduction to Norwegian" spans four weeks and is equivalent to 30 teaching hours. Students are granted access to the online course on the first day of the online course.

We strongly recommend that a minimum of 75% of the activities in ‘Introduction to Norwegian’ are completed before the on-campus teaching begins.

Part 2 (on-campus gatherings): Teaching in a large group. 12 hours of instruction spread over two weeks. Three teaching hours each time, twice a week.

Examination

A digital school exam of two hours that tests in relation to learning objectives. As preparation for the exam, you can practice using a demonstration exam in Inspera.
