MBV9240 – Biochemical mechanisms in intracellular transport

Course content

The course deals with membrane structure, transport of proteins into the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), through the Golgi apparatus and out of the cell; chemical modification of proteins, different forms of endocytosis and intracellular transport; factors that regulate intracellular transport and fusion with different organelles; newly discovered pathways in the cell.

Learning outcome

The course will provide the students with knowledge corresponding to what is currently known about the subjects covered.

Admission

PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.

If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.

PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.

Teaching

20 lectures and 10 student seminars concentrated over 2 weeks in October/November

The lectures must be considered as syllabus and there is mandatory participation in both lectures and colloquia. 80 % participation is required.

Examination

Give an individual presentation of a research article to the group taking the course.

Three hours final written exam appr. two weeks after the end of the course.
