INF9440 – CMOS Image sensors
Course description
Course content
Image sensors are improving strongly and are utilized in digital cameras within many applications like mobile phones, digital still cameras (DSC) camcorders, in automotive and medical applications, and in industrial production.
The core of the digital camera is the array of light sensing elements pixels (picture element). The advantage with CMOS technology is that the image capturing array can be combined with complex electronic circuits on the same silicon chip in a standard fabrication process.
The course covers light sensitivity of silicon, signal readout methods, color interpolation and image processing, and introduction to optics.
Learning outcome
The student will understand the physical principles involved in image sensing, be able to design sensors with readout electronics, and gain basic knowledge in color and image processing.
In addition, each PhD student will be given an extended curriculum within the field/research area of the course. The syllabus must be approved by the lecturer so that the student can be admitted to the final exam.
Admission
PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.
If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.
PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.
