INF5440 – CMOS Image sensors
Course description
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
Course content
The course will run as INF5441 with 10 credits this semester. Register on INF5440 and you will be moved to INF5441.
Image sensors are improving strongly and are utilized in digital cameras within many applications like mobile phones, digital still cameras (DSC) camcorders, in automotive and medical applications, and in industrial production.
The core of the digital camera is the array of light sensing elements pixels (picture element). The advantage with CMOS technology is that the image capturing array can be combined with complex electronic circuits on the same silicon chip in a standard fabrication process.
The course covers light sensitivity of silicon, signal readout methods, color interpolation and image processing, and introduction to optics.
Learning outcome
The student will understand the physical principles involved in image sensing, be able to design sensors with readout electronics, and gain basic knowledge in color and image processing.
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.
If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
Prerequisites
Recommended previous knowledge
Recommended Knowledge in electronics, circuit analysis, analogue CMOS similar to INF3410 – Analog microelectronics (discontinued)/INF4410 – Analog Microelectronics (discontinued), INF3420 – Prosjekter i analog/mixed-signal CMOS konstruksjon (discontinued)/INF4420 – Microelectronics Design Project (discontinued), FYS1210 – Elementary Electronics with Project Work and partly FYS3220 – Linear Circuit Theory.
Overlapping courses
- 5 credits overlap with INF-CBS
- 5 credits overlap with INF9440 – CMOS Image sensors (continued)
- 5 credits overlap with INF5441 – CMOS billedsensor (continued)
Teaching
2 hour lecture per week.
Examination
Oral or written exam. General information about the examination.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
Resit an examination
This subject does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination. For general information about new examination, see /studier/admin/eksamen/sykdom-utsatt/mn/index.html and /english/studies/admin/examinations/new-exam/index.html
Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
When practicing exam regulations, the subject is considered equal to INF-CBS.
Other
It is strongly recommended to attend the first lecture since it will be given important information.
