Important: Remote Desktop uses two factor authentication, but you won't get a reminder about it on the screen when you log in. When you log in to Remote Desktop, you must check the phone to confirm the login in Microsoft Authenticator (with Remote Desktop you cannot confirm login with anything other than Authenticator).
Install Remote Desktop
- Microsoft Remote Desktop is installed from the App Store (requires Apple ID).
- For iPhone and iPad in operation, the program is installed from Intelligent Hub on the device.
Setting up Remote Desktop Connection to a Windows machine
Click the plus button. The Opprett tilkobling window appears:
?
Enter the name of your office computer in the form computer.uio.no in the field PC name. You can also connect to Windows servers, such as win.uio.no.
Your Username is written in the form uio\username. You may also enter your password.
Gateway
For security reasons, you must add a gateway. Go to Settings.
?
Choose Gateway.
?
And click Legg til Ekstern skrivebord-gateway. Enter the address rds-portal.uio.no.
?
Finish by pressing Lagre.
Use Remote Desktop Connection
Double click the computer's entry in Microsoft Remote Desktop to connect to the computer.
The connection requires two-factor authentication and will therefore hang on Initiating remote connection, until you have confirmed the login with Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile phone.
