What is a WebID group?

A WebID group is a group of WebID users that have access to a service. Groups are created in the Keycloak admin interface and can be used in services that support WebID.

WebID groups can only be created by Feide or UiO users. Ordinary WebID users can be members of WebID groups but cannot create them.

A WebID group consists of the following information:

  • A unique group name. The name cannot be changed.

Please note that a WebID group must contain at least one member, or the group will be deleted.

Group owner

The user who creates the group automatically becomes the owner of the group. The user can choose to invite another Feide or UiO user to own the group.

The owner of a group is able to:

  • Invite and remove group moderators.
  • Invite and remove group members.

It is currently not possible to delete groups manually or rename groups.

Note that only Feide or UiO users can be owners of groups and that only one user at a time can own a group.

Group moderator

The owner of a group can invite other Feide or UiO users to be group moderators, who are able to:

  • Invite and remove group members.

Note that moderators do not automatically become members of a group. They thus have no access to the WebID group in other services. Moderators may however invite themselves to become members of a group.
