Job structure
The academic staff at UiO is divided into the following main job group categories:

Transitional rules to Regulations for the Act on universities and colleges
- For decisions on appointments and promotions in teaching and research positions before 1 August 2025, the institutions can choose to use the qualification requirements laid down in Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.
- Employees who apply for promotion in accordance with Section 3-13 (lovdata.no) (Norwegian) no later than 31 July 2025 have the right to have their application assessed according to Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.
- Employees in the position category university and college lecturer have the right to apply for promotion to associate professor according to Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research post Section 2-4 first paragraph, until 31 December 2027. The transitional rule applies to university lecturers who were in employment before the Regulations for the Act on universities and colleges came into force on 1 August 2024.
- For decisions on employment in recruitment positions before 1 August 2025, the institutions can choose to use the terms of employment in Regulations concerning terms and conditions of employment for the posts of post-doctoral research fellow, research fellow, research assistant and resident.
