Laboratory Advisors at IMB Awarded the University of Oslo's HSE Prize
Kirsten Grundt, Ingunn M?rk Jemstad, and Helene Tandberg from the Institute of Medical Basic Sciences are the recipients of the University of Oslo's HSE Prize. The three of them work as laboratory advisors and collaborate closely with both the line management in the department and local safety representatives, forming teams across different areas. Among other initiatives, they have improved the training course for new employees working in the laboratory.

Briefings to our staff

UiO: Nominate your candidate for the University Board. In May, new representatives will be elected for the university board. Suggest others or nominate yourself as a candidate. The deadline is April 22.

UiO: Ragnhild Hennum is elected new Rector at UiO. Hennum has been elected as the new rector of the University of Oslo, alongside Pro-Rector Bj?rn Jamtveit.

UiO: UiO Introduces a New System for Reporting Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Incidents. Employees have so far reported HSE incidents through the "Speak up!" pages on uio.no. This will continue to be the case – the webpages will just look slightly different.

IMB: Excavation work at Domus Medica: There will be noisy construction work at the New National Hospital at intervals this Spring. The tram will probably not be operating until May/June.

MED: The faculty has received support from the NFR to facilitate participation in the Research Grand Prix for our staff again this year! An invitation to apply for participation will be sent to all PhD candidates this week.

MED: The annual report for 2023 - 2024 (.pdf in Norwegian) is ready and has been presented to the Faculty Board.

UiO: A significant number of research environments across all faculties are excelling at a high international level, according to UiO's annual report for 2024 (in Norwegian).

Helsam: Henrik Vogt and medical student Ingebj?rg Rikhardsen ask why an increasing proportion of doctors and clients seek international solutions as well as in Norway to "improve" or embellish already healthy individuals and conditions that are normal for their age. UiO: Cultural offerings for staff: The show and the info about this offer is in Norwegian. We now have a good price for preview performances of B?rd Tufte Johansen's new stand-up show in August. The show is called "Pr?ver ? v?re positiv"/ "Trying to Be Positive."
- UiO: The deadline for applying for main holiday is approaching on 1 May. Check your holiday entitlement in the portal or on the DF? mobile app, and apply for holiday as soon as possible.
Management meetings
- Department meeting: The next meeting is on 15 April. The meetings are held every other Tuesday from 13:30 to 15:30. Agenda papers should be sent by 12:00 on the preceding Thursday.
- The Faculty Director's section meeting every Monday at 12:00.
- Overview of Faculty Board meetings and IDF meetings in 2025 with deadlines for submitting items. The next Faculty Board meeting is on 3. June. The agenda and minutes for the Faculty Board are updated here.
- Meetings of the University Board in 2025, with agendas and minutes. The meetings are streamed and open for anyone who wishes to follow along. The next meeting is on 6 May.

Student unions and academic staff at the University of Oslo can now apply to UiO:Life Science for funding to co-finance open events. The maximum amount is NOK 100,000 or up to 50% of the total costs. Deadline is 1st June 2025.

Researchers in life sciences at UiO can apply for incentive funds for FRIPRO applications submitted from now until the end of 2025.

26 April is Immunology Day. Join this year's seminar at the Literature House from 11 am to 1 pm: "The Brain Under Attack! – When the Immune System Becomes Our Own Enemy." The event is organised by the Norwegian Society for Immunology (NSI). The event will be streamed live here for those who can't attend in person.

29 April: Understanding Pandemic Risk: A One-Health Perspective. Join us at the Centre for Pandemics and One-Health Research for 2 days filled with insights from esteemed scientists into research relevant to pandemics and One-Health topics.

6. mai: Food in Focus: When Food Becomes Illness and Obsession (in Norwegian). We are concerned about food and meals in our society. What happens when the focus on food shifts to illness? Join in on a conversation about eating disorders and what we can do about it.

7 May: Networking for newly appointed associate professors and professors. As a newly appointed professor or associate professor, you are invited to a pleasant gathering with mingling and academic presentations at the Professor's Residence.
