Print for employees at the University of Oslo

This is how you print from UiO-owned machines, whether they are laptops or desktop computers.

Info:

Employee: Select the printer with a name that includes pull.uio.no in the dialog box when printing.

Student/private equipment: Print using MobilityPrint on PC/Mac, iOS/Android, or Web Print.

Printing from UiO-managed/UiO-owned Windows

All UiO-managed Windows PCs, whether desktop or laptop, can easily print by selecting Print, Skriv ut, or pressing CTRL+P.

Instructions

Here is a guide on printing for employees:

  • Open/find the document you want to print
    • Once you have opened or found the document, select one of the following:
      • Skriv ut
      • Print
      • Press CTRL + P on the keyboard
  • Select the printer queue
    • When you go to print, a dialog box will appear where you can choose the desired printer queue.
    • Select the printer queue based on the printer you want to print from:
      • Select ricoh on pull.uio.no for Ricoh printers.
      • Select hp on pull.uio.no for HP printers.
    • Then press skriv ut or print in the dialog box to send your print job to the printer.
    • If you have selected a default printer, it will automatically appear as the selected printer. If you want to change the printer queue, click on the printer name, change printer, change printer, or similar.
    • Tips: If you do not need any print finishing options, you can send the print job to hp on pull.uio.no and retrieve your printout from both HP and Ricoh printers.
    • Note that the appearance of the dialog box may vary depending on the program or browser you are printing from. A typical dialog box may look like this:
  • Retrieve your printout
    • Once you have sent your document from your computer to the printer queue, it is ready to be printed.
    • You can find instructions on how to retrieve printouts here: How to retrieve printouts?

Don't have the printer queue for the printing system?

Follow the guide below to add the printer queues to your UiO-managed machine:

  • Add the printer queues
    • Press win (Windows key) + r to open the "Run" dialog. This will bring up a dialog that looks like this:
    • Image may contain: rectangle, font, parallel, screenshot, number.

  • Add the HP queue on pull.uio.no
    • In the field in the dialog, enter \\pull.uio.no\hp
    • Image may contain: rectangle, font, screenshot, parallel, number.

  • Connect to the printer queue
    • Then click "OK" to add the queue, a new dialog will open indicating that the queue is being set up on your machine.
    • Image may contain: rectangle, font, parallel, screenshot, electric blue.

  • Add the Ricoh queue on pull.uio.no
    • Repeat step 1 to open the "Run" dialog.
    • Repeat step 2, then enter \\pull.uio.no\ricoh and click "OK".
    • Image may contain: rectangle, font, screenshot, parallel, number.

  • The queues should now be added
    • The queues should now be set up on your machine, and you can print. You can verify that the queues have been added by going to "Settings", selecting "Devices", and then selecting "Printers and Scanners":
    •

    • If you are printing from a Ricoh printer, select the "ricoh on pull.uio.no" queue.
    • If you are printing from an HP printer, select the "HP on pull.uio.no" queue.
    • Tips: Instead of selecting a specific queue (ricoh/HP), you can always choose to send the print job to the "HP on pull.uio.no" queue. This way, you can print your document from both Ricoh and HP printers.

Printing from Mac

  • Mac computers managed by UiO automatically have access to the printer queues used at UiO.
  • Under 'Printers & Scanners' you can see which queues are mounted for you.
  • The queues that have pull.uio.no in them are the relevant ones at UiO, just be aware that there is one for HP printers and one for Ricoh printers.

Image may contain: rectangle, font, screenshot, technology, software.

To print, you can press Command-P, which will bring up a dialog box with some options. Once everything looks correct, simply click Print.

Printing from Linux

For printing from Linux, you can refer to this guide: Printing with Papercut

Printing from tablets, mobile devices, and privately-owned PCs

If you are using a tablet, mobile device, or privately-owned computer (not managed by UiO), you need to print using Mobilityprint on PC/Mac, iOS/Android, or Web Print.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a free print quota, but my balance is still in the negative. Why?

As an employee at UiO, you have a free print quota, so you do not pay for printouts.

With the new printing system, you will see that you have a balance that goes into the negative. This does not affect your free print quota. Therefore, you can still print even if your balance goes into the negative.

You will see your balance, for example, if you use WebPrint. If you log in to print.uio.no, you can see the balance and it may be in the negative.

I am an employee, which printer queues should I use?

If you need post-processing for the printout, you must use the respective printer queue for the model where you will retrieve your printout: ricoh at pull.uio.no or hp at pull.uio.no.

If you do not need post-processing, you can send the printout to hp at pull.uio.no and retrieve the printout from both HP and Ricoh printers.

Why am I getting an error message when I try to print from my machine?

You may experience receiving an error message when attempting to print. The error message may vary slightly but usually indicates an error related to printer setup or similar issues.

This is most likely because you are not connected to UiO's VPN service. Search for Cisco AnyConnect on your machine, open the program, and connect to the VPN solution. If it still does not work, try restarting your machine and check that the VPN is connected.
