Calendar in a Teams channel

You can create a calendar for the channel activities.

A channel calendar is mainly used to organize all your channel meetings.

  1. To add a calendar to a channel, click on the  + Add banner button and search for Calendar. Choose Channel calendar.

  2. Give the channels calendar an appropriate name or keep the name Channel Calendar. Click Add to create a calendar for the channel.

  3. When you create a meeting in a calendar, the process is the same as with any other calendar meeting. A meeting that is planned from this calendar automatically includes the channel, and you can not change or remove it. If you have existing channel meetings in your channel, they are automatically included in this calendar.

  4. Meetings in this calendar are standard channel meetings. If you want people to be invited, you must explicity invite them.
  5. Channel meetings are video meetings, but can also be hybrid meetings where some participants are sitting in a physical meeting room. Choose one of UiOs meeting rooms from Add location.
  6. Write information about the meeting, and it's agenda.
  7. Conclude by clicking Send to send the invitation to the meeting.

When you create meetings in the calendar of a Teams channel, it automatically adds information about the meeting as a conversation to Entries, just as any other channel meeting. The chat is the meeting chat, as usual.

Limitations of the channel calendar

  • You can not create a channel calendar in a private channel.
  • You can have only one calendar for each channel. You can add the app as a banner in a channel more than once, but it is the same calendar. 
  • Guests (external participants) do not have access to the channel calendar. Externals kan still be invited to meetings, there is no change in how guests interact with channel meetings. But if they try to access the banner they will recieve an error message.
  • The channel calendar has no Outlook integration. You can not subscribe to channel calendars in Outlook at the current time. This calendar is only available in the channel within which it resides.
  • Channel calendars have no Sharepoint calenedar integration either.
  • Teams does not have an overview window that shows your collected activities from the various channels you are member of, and you can therefore often get overlapping activities from the various channels your are member of.
