Recently, a number of students have received an English-language scam email informing them about a high-paying job vacancy as a "research assistant". Interested individuals are encouraged to get in touch via a @gmail or @outlook address. The email is signed by a "professor" from one of the University of Oslo's (UiO) faculties.

You have probably seen them, phishing attempts via email. Some are bad, and some are very convincing. Now, email users at UiO are being exposed to a wave of convincing scam emails.
Here is an important warning from UiO CERT, UiO's own response team for IT security incidents.
The University of Oslo (UiO) is launching an e-learning course about privacy and IT security for all faculty, staff andstudents. The course is designed to equip you with the necessary skills to protect our valuable research data and personal information.
In February, the IT department announced that UiO's email would be moved to a new and better solution, and now we are starting. The first step for everyone at UiO is to finish the cleanup effort to minimize the amount of e-mail which must be moved, and remove sensitive data. The migration to the new solution starts at the beginning of October.
Summer is here, and many bring their PC and phone while traveling. Remember to consider security even when you're in vacation mode, and bring along tips for good work if you're going to have a "summer home office".
Thursday, June 20th, the login on the UiO website and the faculty websites, as well as Canvas and Panopto, will be renewed. You should not notice any changes other than a renewed appearance and the requirement to log in with two-factor authentication.
UiO is now implementing the email solution that is included in MS365 (formerly Office 365), which can offer all students and employees a more comprehensive way of working, where email and calendar seamlessly work with the other MS365 tools, and all email is protected by two-factor authentication (secure login).

UiO's privacy-friendly AI chat, GPT UiO, has quickly become very popular. Now this useful tool is available in a new version. The interdisciplinary development team has received many requests from users, and one request in particular stands out: Dark Mode.
UiO has now launched Anthology Ally, a support tool in Canvas that helps lecturers make teaching materials more accessible to all students.
October is Security Month at UiO. The IT department initiates IT Security Month and provides useful tips and events, encouraging everyone to think about their own security one or even twice extra.
Have you considered where and how to store documents and other information? Do you need to share information? Some time ago, UiO launched the Data Storage Guide, and now the Data Sharing Guide is also available.
GPT UiO is live and launched. It is a UiO developed service that allows you to use OpenAI's ChatGPT within the requirements set by UiO and the law regarding privacy and security. The service is now open to all students and employees at UiO, and can be ordered by institutions within and outside the sector.
A new print system is being introduced at UiO. The change is necessary for security reasons. All you need to do to print, is to select a new printer.
It is very important that the requirements of GDPR are complied with when we enter into agreements for services where personal data is transferred. Now the rules for the transfer of personal data to the USA are becoming less strict.
GPT UiO is coming soon. Chat within the privacy regulations, and rest assured that what you enter will not be reused by others. But you still have to be careful how you use what the AI sends you as a response.
Do you need to collaborate within or outside UiO? Collaborate on the collection and use of data? Need to easily run simulations and analyze large amounts of data? Then you should check whether UiO's own Educloud Research is something for you.
AI is here to stay, but it's still new. The information we have about how ChatGPT and similar services process and store data from and about users changes almost every day. Some services offer the possibility to adapt the tools to local conditions, and others do not.
On Friday 24 March 2023, there were guidelines from the IT director at UiO regarding the use of TikTok and Telegram on UiO-owned devices.
Finally, we have a good and user-friendly automatic speech-to-text tool. It works very well in Norwegian, can translate automatically into English, uses AI technology, and does not send data out from the UiO servers.
From 1 January, the new IT department at UiO is in place. Both USIT and local IT staff from several units at UiO are part of the new department. For most people at UiO, the first ting which will be noticed is that contacting IT support will be easier with one, joint point of contact. For the staff in the new IT department there are organisational changes, some will get a new manager and all will work together.
On January 1st 2023, the new joint IT organization for UiO comes into force. The organisation's vision is to be user-oriented, inclusive, highly competent and creative, and already in November we are seeing results of the user-orientation in the form of a survey that is sent to all faculty, staff and students.
At UiO, there is two-factor authentication for all employees and students for Microsoft 365 and services with Feide login.
From 8 August 2022, UiO teaching staff who use Canvas can start using Panopto. With the combination of Panopto and Canvas, you can easily record lectures from home or from an auditorium/classroom, and you get user-friendly editing of the video and automatic upload to Canvas.
