Log in to TSD
You can log in to the TSD services either by using the VMware Web client, or by installing and using the VMware Horizon client (preferred and highly recommended, see here).
Note. The TSD project PI/admin must grant access to Windows VMs for each individual user in the project. If access is not granted, an error message about the user not being entitled to access the vm, will be shown when trying to log on to a Windows VM.
How to connect to TSD with the VMware Web client
- Go to https://view.tsd.usit.no
- Click on VMware Horizon HTML Access.
- Type your TSD username and the one time passcode from Google Authenticator app, and click on Login. The Google Authenticator app is on your mobile phone. If not, Install Google Authenticator in your phone now and follow these instructions.
- Type your TSD password into the next box which appears in the VMware Web client, and click on Login. If you haven't set up your password yet, follow these instructions to do so.
- If multiple machines are listed, select the pXX-win0N-pool Windows host or pXX-RHELM-0N -pool Linux host (substitute XX with correct project number, substitute M with correct RedHat Enterprise Linux major version number and substitute N with the virtual machine number you have been given access to).
How to connect to TSD with the VMware Horizon Client
If you intend to use the VMware Horizon software client, and haven't installed it yet, please follow these instructions.
- Open the VMWare Horizon Client.
- Click New server in the top left corner of the VMware client window. When the Enter the name of the Connection Server box opens, enter view.tsd.usit.no, and click Connect.
- In the next dialogue type your TSD username and the one time passcode from Google Authenticator app, and click on Login. The Google Authenticator app is on your mobile phone. If not, Install Google Authenticator in your phone now and follow these instructions.
- Type your TSD password into the next box which appears in the VMware Horizon client, and click on Login. If you haven't set up your password yet, follow these instructions to do so.
- If multiple machines are listed, select the pXX-win0N-pool Windows host or pXX-RHELM-0N-pool Linux host (substitute XX with correct project number, substitute M with correct RedHat Enterprise Linux major version number and substitute N with the virtual machine number you have been given access to).
Session Duration on Windows
- Due to the security reasons there is a hard limit of ten hours on the duration of a connection to TSD. After ten hours, the session from Horizon View Client will be closed. Please quit any running applications (e.g. spss, stata), save your work and sign out from TSD in due time.
- Every Sunday between 00:00 - 06:00, we will reboot Windows VM in your project and update it with security updates from Microsoft.
For Mac OSX
When copying a username in Mac OSX, it is possible to inadvertently include a newline, which causes the username to be rejected. The solution is to disable the "Remember username and password" option in the Horizon settings and enter the username manually instead of using copy and paste.
