I will put my handwritten notes for the course survey and exam problems on the web (with links from the detailed teaching plan). In addition to solutions of the exam problems, the surveys mainly give definitions and easy reformulations. They give very few results and almost no examples. Hence the notes must not in any way be thought of as giving a comprehensive account of the course, but rather as a starting point for a final preparation. I do recommend that the students read the notes. I will probably have to give a shortened version in class.
All assignments have now been graded and put in the shelves on the 7th floor. All students should check that they have been correctly registered.
We will cover only parts of section 58 and 59, following John Rognes' notes.
The assignments have now been graded. All students should check that they have been correctly registered in the system. The assignments are in the shelves on the 7th floor in the math building. The students who did not get their assigments approved have to deliver new assignments by 14.30 next thursday (November 15th).
Don't forget to hand in the mandatory assigment by 14.30 on thursday.
I have added a link to an English-Norwegian topology dictionary.
We will cover parts of section 43 and 45, following John Rognes' notes. I have removed a couple of exercises from chapter 45 for next week.
I have now corrected the mistake in the mandatory assignment.
There is an error in the defintion of an accumulation point x of a sequence in problem 7 in the mandatory assignment. The correct definition is : Every neighbourhood U of x contains infinitely many elements of the sequence. A corrected version of the problem set will be published on monday.
Here is the mandatory assignment which is due on November 1st.
A lot of the material on quotient topologies is very simple set theory. I will emphasize this more in the lectures than the book does. Here are my lecture notes
These notes of John Rognes are very useful as supplementary literature.
We will mainly continue in Auditorium 2. The exceptions are september 12th and 14th this week. See detailed teaching plan for details.
Until September 7th, all classes (tuesdays, wednesdays and fridays) will be held in Auditorium 2, Vilhelm Bjerknes Hus.
