Files in Educloud Research

To locate your files, you have to log in to an Educloud Research desktop first. Please follow the guide here on  how to log in to Educloud Research.

After you have logged in, you can follow the steps below. Follow the guide with the same operating system as the virtual desktop you are working on.

Project folders

Windows

  1. Open File Explorer and select This PC in the left margin. Image may contain: Rectangle, Operating system, Font, Screenshot, Software.
  2. You will see all your projects under Network locations.
  3. Choose the project you want to work on.
  4. The respective project files will be located here. Windows desktop, file explorer, this PC: After you have chosen a project, your files will shows

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

  1. Open a Terminal in the virtual machine.

    Redhat linux in the activities window, searching for terminal.

  2. Input the command cd /projects/ecXX where ecXX is the project you want to work on.

  3. You are now inside the directory of project ecXX, and the respective project files will be located here.

All files in a project folder are accessible to all project members. That is, no additional sharing is necessary.

Note that you must only save project files inside the corresponding project folder. However, files that do not belong to any Educloud project can be stored in the following directories mapped from the user's home-directory; Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Music, Pictures, and Videos. Files stored on the C: drive will be gone when new desktops are put into production Friday morning.

Home-directory

Windows

In File Explorer you can find shortcuts to the folders from your home directory (1) under Quick access or (2) under This PC -> Folders. Additionally, the correct folders will have unique icons.Image may contain: Rectangle, Font, Parallel, Screenshot, Circle.

The home folder can also be mounted for better access by clicking on "this pc", clicking on "computer" as marked in picture below, clicking on map network drive. In the window that now opens you should write \\aspasia\homes01\u01\<ec-username> where you replace with your username and then click finish.

 

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

  1. Via the Files application: Under Home, open the folder pc. There you will find your home directory.
  2. Via terminal: cd /fp/homes01/u01/<ec-username>/pc
