What is VDI?
VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) is the common name for desktops that are produced in a data center and can be viewed on almost any device.
In Educloud two types of VDIs are provided, Linux (RHEL8) and Windows (Windows Server 2019). All users that are entitled can access both types of VDI.
Unless specified the desktop you log in to is a dedicated desktop with its own CPU, memory, etc. All desktops are refreshed with new applications and security patches each week.
The desktops that are produced in our datacenters are distributed using VMware Horizon, either thorugh the Horizon client (preferred option), or a web browser.
In both cases the access is through the server view.educloud.no.
Useful tips
- If you have administrative privileges on your laptop/desktop you can download the most recent Horizon client directly from view.educloud.no (download link at bottom of page).
- If you select Disconnect in the Horizon client subsequent access will be to the same session (please note the next point)
- We push fresh new images every Friday morning at 02:00, at that time all sessions are logged of.
